MacTassos - Glasgow

I fell in love with gyros almost three years ago after having one at the famous Glasgow Christmas market. Ever since then every time the opportunity arises to get my hands on one I’m right at the front of the line. MacTassos recently opened a venue in the Buchanan Galleries food court, and of course I couldn’t resist the urge to have another of these staple Greek snacks.

For those that haven’t been blessed with the chance to try a gyro I’ll break them down a little bit. Meat from a rotisserie (often lamb, chicken, pork or a mix) is stuffed inside a flatbread or pitta alongside tomato, onion, tzatziki sauce, and often fries. Not convinced yet? Take a look at this:

This gyro from MacTassos was filled with pieces of tender and crispy seasoned chicken, tomato, red onion, tzatziki sauce and fries. I also chose to add halloumi to mine for a slight extra charge. If you're  going to have the calories you may as well make them worth it.

I couldn't fault this gyro, it was a delicious and indulgent treat. The chicken was tender with a crispy coating, the bread was warmed through making it light and spongy, the halloumi was rich and salty  which added a lovely chewiness to each mouth full. There's no getting away from the greasiness that comes with such a meaty meal, but this MacTassos gyro was the right amount of greasy to add flavour but not enough to leave my hands dripping at the end.

One of these gyros will leave you full for the entire day. There was a bit of a wait for the food to be made but the end result was totally worth it. MacTassos delivered a brilliant gyro, and at £5 you really get your money's worth plus some!
